Vlasis Vlasidis


Associate Professor for Contemporary History of the Balkans, at the University of Macedonia, Thessaloniki, Greece


Vlasis Vlasidis is (2019-) an Associate Professor for Contemporary History of the Balkans, at the University of Macedonia, Thessaloniki, Greece. He has given undergraduate lectures at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, School of Journalism (2016) and at the University of Western Macedonia, Department for Balkan Studies (2001-2013) and postgraduate lectures for tourism development at Alexandreion TEI Thessaloniki and for local history at the University of Western Macedonia (2016-2019).

He has served as Head of the Documentation Department of Macedonian Press Agency (1995-2004), a Greek public news agency, now merged with Athens News Agency (ANA-MPA) and Head of the Research Centre for Macedonian History and Documentation of the Museum for Macedonian Struggle, Thessaloniki, Greece (2001-2004).

He is member of the editing board of the scientific journals, member of the Academic Committee of the Research Centre for Macedonian History and Documentation (KEMIT/MMA) and of the Foundation for the Greek refugees (IAPE).

He has published several articles on the history of the Balkans and on the Balkan Mass media in Academic journals. His most recent research topics are cultural industries and touristic development, WWI and WWII, history and heritage, Migration and Media. He is fluent in Greek, English, French, German and Bulgarian.
